For decades, Michael Sweet has delivered faith at full volume. Big hooks, bigger vocals, unmistakable conviction. But on The Master Plan, now available everywhere via Frontiers Music, he’s not dialing it back so much as redirecting it.

Fair warning Stryper fans, this is a different kind of record, but not a full a departure either. More like a long-awaited side project that is very familiar to those that have been following his career for years.

“I can’t tell you how long I’ve wanted to make this record,” Sweet says.

Best known for leading Stryper, Sweet has spent his career blending bold sound with a clear message. The Master Plan keeps that message intact. “It’s totally different… it’s not a rock record,” he explains. “It’s an eclectic mix of everything I grew up on. I didn’t want to follow any rules—I just wanted to do whatever I wanted to do.”

That approach shows up across the album. Co-produced with Jeff Savage, whose credits include TobyMac and Jars of Clay, the project leans into layered arrangements and a more open, expressive sound. It feels intentional without feeling restrained.

At its core, the album is built around a simple idea.

“The goal is to inspire and encourage and give people hope,” Sweet says.

“I hope people can be lifted up, encouraged, inspired… if I can help someone through a song, I’ve done my job,” he adds. “It was therapeutic for me, and I want it to be for other people as well.”

Sweet even traces the origin of this project further back than expected. “I think I subconsciously started making it when I was a kid… It’s certainly not cookie cutter by any stretch of the imagination.”

  • Third Day Tour Review: ALL HITS, NO MISSES

I’m typically protective of what would be considered spoiler territory, but given that Third Day has advertised this tour as “all the hits,” there’s really not much to spoil from a setlist perspective.
